What a weekend this has been.
Well, actually only half of my weekend was "special" but it will be one of which I will some fond memories...
What made it different from any other weekend?
Well, friday after work we had a planned team activity with some people from work. We went to Ghent to play some paintball. There were 11 colleagues + me, which made it a 6 vs 6 situation.
And what fun it was! Amongst us there were a lot of Call of Duty veterans with some experience in tactics. I had been paintballing before but never indoor. And my previous experiences weren't always very positive as often the opponent would cheat and lie about being hit. But this time everybody was fair enough to admit defeat and everything went really well.
Our team won most games as we had some great teamwork and good cover. It was really exhilerating to run and slide into cover of a building or wall. I managed to kill everyone of the other team at least once in those 3 hours. A couple of headshots, 2 "knife kills" and being killed myself. It was all good fun and I only left with 1 bruise in the end. It was totally worth it... ^^
Afterwards I had to leave early because I had to go get Sofie and Jonathan so that we could go see the Persistence Tour in the Brielpoort at Deinze.
Once there we met up with Sofie's brother and a couple of friends of him. Later on my brother joined us and the gang was complete. We missed Casey Jones but from Cruel Hand on we saw every band who played the venue. I was particulary surprised by Unearth and Blood for Blood. I already knew that Evergreen Terrace was good but the lead singer still bothers me while seeing them live. DRI was good fun although not something I would buy.
And to finish the night there was Sick Of It All from New York City. And we know there's always a party when they come to town. I can't remember that I've ever let myself go on SOIA before like I did fridaynight. I even managed to get on the stage during Us vs Them with a whole lot of the rest of the crowd. Standing there front row on stage with Sick Of It All, I don't think I'll ever stand before so many people on a stage again. And weirdly enough I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. So much for stagefright...
It was a great party and I'm always stoked after a show from those guys. I hope they'll come back soon for another concert.
And the last part of my fun weekend was planned for saturday evening.
Jonas had scored a couple of tickets for a try-out of Xander De Rycke. Which would mean a full evening of comedy! First up though was some kind of MC who would talk it all together with a couple of jokes in between. I was rather amused by MC Bram Van Den Broecke. He did a good job warming up the public.
Then it was Joost Van Hijfte's turn to amuse us. At first we were all looking at each other while thinking: who the fuck is this guy? But soon we couldn't help but keep laughing at this man's show. He didn't look like much and was in his early 40ies but he was so damn funny and convincing. I really liked him a lot. I hope he gets somewhere with this.
Then it was time for Xander to try out his new material. The public was rather subdued but I found the whole show rather entertaining. I wasn't bored for a moment and had a lot of laughs. I'm really curious to see where the finished show will end.
So now it's sunday and finally some time to be at ease. I'm still sore from friday, but it doesn't bother me at all as I had a really great weekend!
